Holy Days of Obligation in the Diocese of San Angelo
The following days are observed as holy days of obligation for Latin Rite Catholics in the United States of America:
- All Sundays throughout the year
- January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
- except when it falls on Saturday or Monday
- August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
- except when it falls on Saturday or Monday
- November 1, the solemnity of All Saints
- except when it falls on Saturday or Monday
- December 8, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
- every year, no matter what day of the week
- December 25, the solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ
- every year, no matter what day of the week
Whenever January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God; August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption; or November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, it remains a solemnity in the Church calendar, and it is to be observed as such with a celebration of the Eucharist available for the faithful, but the obligation to attend Mass is dropped on these particular occasions.
In all the dioceses of Texas, the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is transferred from Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter to the Seventh Sunday of Easter.
